AquaNANO

Nano-probe based analysis system for fast on-site identication of drinking water contaminations

Project Title: Nanosondenbasiertes Analysesystem zur schnellen Vor-Ort-Identifizierung von Trinkwasserkontaminationen

Funding Organization: Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF)

Abstract:

Goal of the project is to identify contaminations in drinking water by means of a measurement system based on magnetic nanoparticles. A mobile system will be designed for fast on-site inspection of drinking water after catastrophic events such as floodings or earthquakes. Using magnetic detection of magnetic beads that specifically bind to pathogens or toxines, different contaminants shall be identified in one analysis step by means of multiplex magnetic detection. After magnetic separation from a test volume, the beads are to be analyzed in a magnetic detection compartment. The magnetic beads bound to pathogens or toxines serve both as handles for concentration enhancement from a large water reservoir by means of magnets as well as markers for the specific type of contaminant.
