Anion and Cation Conducting Electrolytes for Solid State Batteries

The young investigator group “Anion and cation conducting electrolytes for solid state batteries” focuses on the investigation and development of electrolytes for solid state batteries. We are especially interested in battery concepts utilizing oxygen ion conductors like the rechargeable oxide battery (ROB). This new concept features long term stability, high energy density and low material cost.

Our research combines experimental and theoretical techniques to investigate new solid electrolyte materials. We apply conductivity measurements, secondary ion mass spectrometry, electron microscopy, and x-ray diffraction to characterize materials and density functional theory and Monte Carlo method to predict certain properties like ionic conductivity.
