T3 - Tailoring

TAILORING focuses on a chemical and structural design and on the modification of all electrolyte components. A close interconnection is evident to THEORY as well as to processing TECHNIQUES. Important feedback will result from the cell configuration and testing in TRANSFORMATION and from the system design and battery optimization in TECHNOLOGY.


The guideline for TAILORING is the improvement of the entire electrolyte system including the interaction and optimization of the electrolyte/electrode interfaces. Accordingly, important issues of TAILORING will concern the development of novel approaches to synthesis, layer formation, (electro-) deposition, pre- or post-treatment and proper processing of new and modified electrolytes, additives, and salts.

The following topics will be of key interest in T3- Tailoring:

• Synthesis of new / modification of existing conductive salts for enhanced solubility, lithium ion conductivity and electrochemical stability window
• Investigations in polymer electrolytes to extend the component kit for possible electrolyte compositions
• (Electro-)chemical and physical characterization of new compounds
