Work in this department focusses on solution processable photovoltaic absorber materials including organic molecules and inorganic nanoparticles. Solution processing has the potential to allow solar cell manufacturing at low cost and high speed. However, solution processable semiconductors are typically disordered and do not have the same electronic quality as highly crystalline semiconductors fabricated via high temperature processes. Therefore, our task is to investigate how to create printable semiconductors with sufficiently high electronic quality and thereby to enable high efficiencies at low cost. One focus of this department is the application and development of characterization techniques to analyze the electronic properties of printable semiconductors.
