IEK-7 is involved in and coordinates numerous projects with partners in Germany and abroad. This includes collaborations within the Helmholtz Association, as well as with other research institutions, universities and industry partners. Projects are usually part of and funded by the R&D programmes for atmospheric and climate research of the Helmholtz Association (HGF), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the German Research Foundation (DFG), the European Union (EU) and the European Space Agency (ESA). The results contribute to climate programmes, for example those of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP), and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
IEK-7 currently focuses on the following projects:
- Preparing future ESA satellite missions (PREMIER)
- Instrumenting and preparing demonstration missions for the new German research aircraft HALO (HGF, DFG)
- Coordinating the EU project RECONCILE to study polar ozone chemistry
- Participating in the NASA’s Mid-latitude Airborne Cirrus Properties Experiment (MACPEX) to investigate humidity and clouds at the cold tropopause
