Auswertung von Luftschadstoffszenarien zur Auslegung von Schadgasfiltern und Kathodenregenerationszyklen für Automotive Brennstoffzellen

Fuel cells are galvanic cells where a fuel is oxidized and the chemical energy is converted into electrical energy. Due to the high energy density of the fuel, mostly hydrogen, high-range fuel cell vehicles can be developed. Pollutants in the outside air, however, can damage the membrane of the fuel cell.

In order to be able to assess the damaging effects in the automobile industry, Pollutant concentrations in the city, on motorways or country roads have been measured with MOBILAB, the mobile laboratory of IEK-8. Regeneration strategies for fuel cells and suitable filters are developed based on these data.

The project starts in 2014. The project partners are the Center for Fuel Cell Technology - ZBT GmbH in Duisburg, Daimler AG, Stuttgart and MANN + HUMMEL Innenraumfilter GmbH & Co. KG.

The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics with a funding volume of 1.2 million Euros..
