Research topic: Structure and Function of association cortices in the human brain

The main topic of my research is the structure and function of association cortices in the human brain, with focus on the inferior parietal lobule (IPL). The IPL is involved in such different functions as control of motor programs, language processing, and spatial attention. To study this heterogeneous brain region, I take a multimodal approach: Based on the arrangement and size of neurons, the cortex of the IPL could be subdivided into structurally different, functionally relevant areas. By means of diffusion MRI, the connections of these areas to other cortical brain regions are investigated. Together with functional MRI studies related to motor and language processing, the relation between structure and function in the human IPL should be characterized in more detail.
