Organized by Forschungszentrum Jülich in cooperation with RWTH Aachen

Applications are now open!

How to apply

If you are a student of physics, chemistry, material science or biosciences with a BSc (or Vordiplom or equivalent), you are welcome to apply to the 22nd JCNS Laboratory Course on Neutron Scattering at Forschungszentrum Jülich.

In order to follow the course, you will need an elementary knowledge of applied mathematics, solid state physics and quantum mechanics, which is usually taught as part of a BSc in natural sciences.

The course is aimed at young scientists beginning their studies in neutron scattering and is not intended for post-docs who already have experience in this field.

Upon request, students can participate in a written test to obtain 5 ECTS credit points.

The laboratory course is free of charge and there is no tuition fee.

Accommodation and meals during the course will be provided by JCNS. Travel expenses will be reimbursed within reasonable limits.

To apply:

Please note that your application must be signed in order to be considered; just filling in the on-line form will not be sufficient!

  • If you wish to include any additional information (e.g. a letter of recommendation), please include this in your email attachment(s).

  • Application deadline: 13 May 2018

Please apply here!

Due to the large number of applicants each year which exceeds the capacity of our experimental groups, a selection procedure will take place, based on the subject and type of studies you have undertaken. In the past, around 40% of applicants were selected.

Preference will be given to students who have the necessary knowledge to participate in the course but who have not yet started with their PhD thesis and/or intend to use neutron scattering in their future career. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of the selection procedure about one month after the deadline has expired.
