Getting beam time at SNS
Planning the experiment
When first planning an experiment, users must first decide on the correct neutron technique and then the appropriate instrument to carry this out. It is highly recommended that users contact the instrument scientists before submitting a proposal to discuss the proposed research project in more detail. Issues regarding instrument configuration and whether or not the instrument is able to meet the user's expectations should be discussed beforehand to clarify instrument use and to give the proposal a firm basis upon which to be accepted.
Writing a good proposal
Here you can download the proposal form for beam time applications at the JCNS instruments at SNS.
Detailed guidelines for the submission of a proposal at JCNS instruments at SNS are also available here.
Proposals to the JCNS Instruments at SNS must be submitted by email to firstname.lastname@example.org ; they cannot be submitted online.
Proposals submitted for the JCNS instruments at SNS are assessed during the review process at the MLZ. The review panel meeting takes place around two months after the proposal submission deadline and the final notification to users will be sent two weeks later, i.e. the full review process lasts about 10 weeks.
