Sample Preparation

Sample preparation is a prerequisite when undertaking fundamental research on  electronic and magnetic properties in polycrystalline materials, thin films and single crystals.

Sample preparation is a prerequisite when undertaking fundamental research on  electronic and magnetic properties in polycrystalline materials, thin films and single crystals. At our institute we prepare:

  • polycrystalline oxides and alloys
  • epitaxial thin films and layered structures using molecular beam epitaxy for metals and high pressure sputtering in O2 atmosphere for oxides
  • oxidic and metallic single crystals using the floating zone and the Czochralski method
  • magnetic nanoparticles and nanostructures using the self-organization of soft matter

Due to the direct link between sample preparation and characterization when employing scattering methods and macroscopic probes, excellent opportunities present themselves to vary the important parameters governing the function of the material under investigation.
