The Magnetically Shielded Room (MSR) consists of two layers of Mu-Metal (a high-permeability nickel-iron alloy) and one layer of aluminium. The inside dimensions are 3 m (length) × 2.5 m (width) × 2.4 m (height). Inside the room, external magnetic fields are strongly attenuated. The attenuation factor is approximately 80 at 0.01 Hz, around 300 at 1 Hz and approximately 10000 at 50 Hz. The MSR was constructed by Amuneal Corp. It is used for our Magnetocardiography system and for our low-field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance system.
