On October 17, 2013 Germany and the Ukraine celebrated 20 years of scientific and technological cooperation. Among the 7 most successful joint projects for successful cooperations, the BMBF selected the project UKR 08/008 – the collaboration between the Peter Grünberg Institute (PGI-8), Forschungszentrum Jülich and the Institute of Radiophysics and Electronics (IRE), Kharkov, Ukraine. This cooperation was included in the brochure for highlights of bilateral cooperations, in the introduction of which a testimonial of the State Secretary Dr.Georg Schütte at the BMBF was given. The seven selected projects were presented at the International Science and Technology Forum «Science, Innovations, Technologies - 2013» and were honored for their innovative technologies by an award.
To investigate properties of bioliquids a number of measurement techniques on the basis of whispering gallery mode (WGM) operating in several frequency ranges (X-band:8-12 GHz, Ka-band:15.5-40 GHz and D-band:110-170 GHz) were designed. Among different approaches WGM resonators have several advantages such as high quality factor, low radiation losses, controlled mode coupling with waveguides. The measurements at different frequencies provide useful information about liquids under test, which can be used for their unambiguous identification. The techniques are important from point of view of practical applications in chemistry, biology and medicine.
