March 13th to 17th, 2013, International Winterschool on Bioelectronics 2013: “From Nanobiotechnology to Energy Harvesting” was held at the Söller-Haus, near Hirschegg, Germany. The workshop was joined by participants from the Institute of Bioelectronics (ICS-8/PGI-8) of the Research Center Jülich and participants from our partner institute SIMIT in Shanghai..

The participants talks covered topics from general aspects of energy storage over reviews of solar- and fuel-cells to bio-applications in the nano-regime. Also nanofabrication techniques were presented and discussed in order to show the possibilities of the new Helmholtz Nanoelectronic Facility (HNF) which will be opened this year. After the regular talks open discussions and team-games allowed the participants to interchange experiences and ideas.  Furthermore sunny weather allowed activities such as ski and snowboarding as well as hiking in the mountains.

The next ICS-8/PGI-8 workshop in school format will take place in the summer 2014.
