“IEK-9: Fundamental Electrochemistry” is the most recent sub-institute to be established under the umbrella of the Institute of Energy and Climate Research and strengthens the Jülich's activities in the field of energy research focusing on the fundamentals of future systems for electrochemical energy storage and conversion.
Headed by Prof. Eichel since October 2012, IEK-9 is organizing its first symposium at Forschungszentrum Jülich to introduce the sub-institute to all interested colleagues and the general public. The talks will give an insight into current research highlights as well as the challenges to be overcome for a sustainable energy future from the perspective of fundamental research. Novel concepts for high energy density batteries, degradation phenomena in solid-oxide fuel cells and the development of advanced ‘in operando’ methods for investigating the underlying mechanisms are the main topics.
