Project Management Jülich

As one of the largest project management agencies in Germany, Project Management Jülich (PtJ) works hand in hand with public authorities in science, industry, and policy-making. With its expertise in research and innovation management, PtJ supports its clients in the German federal and state governments as well as the European Commission in achieving their funding policy objectives. On behalf of its clients, PtJ implements research and innovation funding programmes that have been tailored to meet their specific requirements and address socio-political needs.

In the three business areas of energy, sustainable development, and innovation and knowledge transfer, PtJ integrates national and European funding with the aim of enhancing Germany’s competitiveness as a prime location for research and innovation in a common European Research Area.

With around 1100 employees, PtJ handles a broad range of topics. PtJ’s portfolio covers the entire chain of innovation – from basic research right up to market entry. Above and beyond this, PtJ helps to establish innovations in society.

As a largely independent organization, PtJ is affiliated with Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH. In addition to its headquarters in Jülich, PtJ has three more offices in Berlin, Rostock, and Bonn.

PtJ works on behalf of the Federal Ministries of Education and Research (BMBF), of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMU), and of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), as well as on behalf of the states of Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Project Management Organization Energy, Technology, Sustainability (ETN)

Project Management Organization Energy, Technology, Sustainability (ETN) is one of two project management organizations belonging to Forschungszentrum Jülich. For over 25 years, ETN has been working exclusively for the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) and performs its tasks as an organizational unit in a predominantly independent manner.

Originally concerned solely with funding for renewables, ETN has grown into a project management organization with around 80 employees who deal with a broad spectrum of topics. In addition to energy research, ETN looks after projects on climate change mitigation, new mobility, electromobility, and the health economy as well as projects with regional funding. Equality aspects and digitalization process are a firm part of ETN’s overarching principles.

ETN offers prospective funding applicants free consulting services on funding issues. ETN reviews outlines and proposals, edits and approves applications for research funding, oversees projects, and distributes grants. In NRW, the funding of research projects is generally governed by competitive calls for proposals.

In collaboration with Project Management Jülich, ETN has set up LeitmarktAgentur.NRW, which was chosen by the Federal State of NRW in a transparent selection procedure as one of nine intermediaries for the current OP ERDF NRW. OP ERDF NRW stands for the Operational Programme for Investments in Growth and Employment from the European Regional Development Fund in North Rhine-Westphalia for 2014 to 2020. Within this programme, LeitmarktAgentur.NRW implements calls for funding in eight leading markets as well as in the field of climate change mitigation. The research and development projects selected in these calls are funded jointly by the European Union and NRW and are approved by LeitmarktAgentur.NRW, who remains responsible for them for their duration.
