Rules of Good Scientific Practice

Conscientiousness, integrity, open discourse, and clearly regulated procedures for dealing with misconduct: researchers at Jülich are committed to upholding the rules of good scientific practice. All senior staff must assume responsibility for ensuring that these quality standards are endorsed in the institutes. Forschungszentrum Jülich also believes that senior staff should provide a good example for young scientists at the beginning of their careers and emphasize the importance of good scientific practice.

Policy Advice

The responsibilities of Forschungszentrum Jülich include making research findings available to political committees and decision makers, thus providing them with options for successfully tackling social challenges. This is particularly important in fields where drastic changes or rapid technological progress give rise to questions concerning the consequences for society and the environment. Examples are climate change as well as progress in neuroscience and information technology. Forschungszentrum Jülich undertakes these tasks in diverse ways on the regional, national, and European level.

Responsibility for Humans and the Environment

In the past, as a former nuclear research centre, Forschungszentrum Jülich operated two research reactors and was involved in the technological development of the neighbouring high-temperature reactor operated by AVR (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Versuchsreaktor GmbH). Today, Jülich is still active in research areas where nuclear techniques play a key role, such as nuclear medicine. Forschungszentrum Jülich is therefore obliged to ensure that the radioactive waste for which it is responsible is stored and disposed of properly in compliance with legislation. In so doing, protecting employees, the population, and the environment is top priority.

Quality Management at Forschungszentrum Jülich

Forschungszentrum Jülich complies with defined norms and standards to ensure the quality of its research, developments, and services. In doing so, it uses a range of internationally and nationally established quality management systems which are applied to different areas at Jülich. These serve to implement legal requirements and meet the demands of funding agencies, partners, and clients.
