Methodology for high resolution positron emission tomography (µPET) and combination of µPET with anatomical imaging modalities

PET principle

What is µPET?

Positron Emission Tomography is a non-invasive technique for studying in vivo tracer pharmacokinetics and metabolism. High resolution PET (µPET) for small animals is used e.g. for receptor studies in brain research or for the imaging of gene expression in living animals. µPET allows to examine the tracer kinetics in a single animal. While human PET systems have a spatial resolution of 5-7mm, high resolution PET needs a spatial resolution of <2mm and a high sensitivity.
