FunMass goes SAPHIR

In support of our colleagues of IEK-8 the excellent sensitivity of the new aircraft mass spectrometer FunMass for nitric acid (HNO3) was exploited during the recent nitrate radical oxidation campaign conducted at the outdoor simulation chamber SAPHIR in August 2018.

FunMass was reoriented from the horizontal aircraft configuration to an upright configuration to probe the air from the overhead chamber. The aircraft inlet was modified and an online HNO3 calibration unit was added. This way FunMass performed continuous well calibrated HNO3 measurements over all 22 days of the campaign. All data are analyzed and will now be interpreted together with a wealth of parallel measurements performed by instruments of IEK-8 and several other groups from Germany, Europe, and the US.
