Materials for Extreme Conditions

Some 400 experts attend 17th International Conference on Fusion Reactor Materials (ICFRM-17) from 11–16 October in Aachen

Jülich, 15 October 2015 – No material can withstand temperatures hotter than a hundred million degrees. But what would happen if high-energy particles inside a fusion reactor actually did crash into the walls? These and other questions related to future fusion power plants are being addressed by the some 400 scientists from 28 countries at the international conference organized by experts from Forschungszentrum Jülich taking place this week in Aachen. The conference was opened with a keynote by ITER Director-General Bernard Bigot, who was appointed to coordinate the realization of the world’s largest fusion experiment in March this year.
