Elsevier Articles Now Available in E-Reader Formats

Reading electronic texts on the computer monitor ties you to your desk and is often an uncomfortable experience if texts are very long. Some people prefer to print them out, but although this makes them more mobile, it also means that they cannot use technical functions such as full-text search and hyperlinks.

Mobile devices such as smartphones, e-book readers and tablet PCs are an alternative.

E-Reader and Smartphone

Dedicated formats that allow the text to be read on the device displays clearly and without having to scroll are more suitable for these devices than PDF.

Elsevier is now providing its articles on ScienceDirect in the ePUB and Mobipocket formats.

The Central Library (ZB) has has activated the relevant download function for all employees of Forschungszentrum Jülich.

ePUB is a format widely used by e-book readers and mobile devices, e.g. Amazon Kindle or iPhone. Mobipocket is mainly relevant for Kindle.

Article Download in E-Book Formats

You will find the download option for e-reader formats on the right-hand side of the page, below the article abstract (see picture on the left or sample article in ScienceDirect). Simply click on the ePUB or Mobipocket link, download the article in the required format, and save it on your mobile device. An additional app is not required, but just like for PDFs, you will need a VPN connection to Forschungszentrum Jülich.

ZB hopes you enjoy reading articles on the go!
