Research Topics:

Development and implementation of computational methods for the generation of three-dimensional probabilistic cytoarchitectonic maps registered to a common reference system

The generation of three-dimensional cytoarchitectonic probabilistic maps requires the combination of different data modalities (MRI of human postmortem brain for distortion correction of histological sections, images of histological sections, blockface images during sectioning, single subject T1-weighted spatial reference brain). These data covers a large range of spatial scales from centimeter to micrometer ranges. Further methodical challenges results from the fact that the size, shape and localization of cytoarchitectonically defined structures various considerably, for example between large cortical areas and small subcortical nuclei. The research focus is on the development and implementation of computational algorithms and techniques to solve these complex methodological problems.
