Research topic:

Analysis of the molecular and architectonic organization of the cerebral cortex of humans, non-human primates and rodents, including transgenic animal models of neurological and psychiatric diseases.
My main goal is to understand the cyto- and receptor architectonic foundations of cortical segregation as well as the interaction between cortical regions in the healthy and diseased brain. The focus is on receptors as they constitute the molecular basis for the functional specificity and circuit organization of each cortical and subcortical unit. I investigate the relationship between different functional networks in the brain and the characteristics of their specific transmitter-receptor organization patterns. In addition, I am particularly interested in the alterations in receptor densities and "receptor fingerprints" associated with neurological and psychiatric diseases

Methodological topics:

  • In vitro receptor autoradiography
  • Cytoarchitecture
  • Immunhistochemistry
  • fMRI
  • Meta-analyses
