Research topics:

  • genetics
  • brain structure
  • (social) cognition

Broadly I am interested to understand how nature and nurture shape variations in higher cognitive functions such as social behavior and personality. An endophenotype of cognition is brain structure. Therefore the main focus of my current research is to relate genetic factors to brain and behavior. Here I investigate how genetic factors shape brain organization, as well as to what extent genetic factors relate to observed variations in behavior and brain-behavior correlations.  To answer these research questions I work with big data samples such as the Human Connectome Project.

Besides doing research projects myself, I value scientific outreach and mentoring. I was a finalist at the Falling Walls lab, where I gave a 3-minute pitch on training the social brain, and I mentor younger researchers. Also, I do peer-review for various scientific journals such as Brain, Biological Psychiatry and NeuroImage.
