In my project I investigate the performance of age estimation in different age groups from structural MRI-data, using a wide range of machine learning methods. One of the most captivating features of aging is that it is inhomogeneous: the difference from child to post-puberty teenager shows a dramatic change, while the changes from a forty-year-old to a sixty-year-old are much more subtle.  Knowing this in detail could in the future allow to identify aberrant development much earlier. Previous Structural MRI based aging research has focussed on the degenerative processes in adults, for example using global grey matter decline to predict age.  In order to obtain a more holistic image of brain development I want to expand the field by including generative processes in children.
