Master thesis: Feedback regulation of biocatalytic reactions

The focus of the `Synthetic enzyme cascades´ group is the development of value-generating processes using enzyme cascades. We combine catalysts to multi-step biotransformations which do not occur conjunct in nature.

Project Description:
One major challenge in enzymatic cascades is the balancing of different reaction steps against each other. Additionally, when aiming for high product concentrations, solubility limits and toxicity of starting materials for the enzymatic reaction can be challenging. This project aims to implement a direct feedback reaction control by coupling online-analytic with process control. You are going to help to establish a microcontroller based approach to couple a NMR-based online analytic for reaction monitoring with on demand feeding of e.g. substrate.

The project can be started as soon as possible.

Your Qualifications:
You are a highly motivated student of process engineering, bioengineering, biotechnology, or a related field with (very) good grades and strong interest in interdisciplinary research. Interest in micro-controlling projects and programming is desired; prior hands-on experience with biocatalysts, instrumental analytics and/or process automation would be advantageous.
