The Central Institute for Engineering, Electronics and Analytics (ZEA), Subinstitute Analytics (ZEA-3) is the analytical Competence Center of Forschungszentrum Jülich. ZEA-3 advises both internal and external project partners in all analytical questions and develops and applies new methods.
The team Molecular and Biological Systems Analysis develops and applies mass spectrometry-based approaches to define protein function and regulation, with a strong focus on proteolytic processes.

We are looking to recruit a

Postdoc for system-level analysis of protease substrates in plant-pathogen interactions

Your Job:

Proteases are an important group of type III bacterial effector molecules essential for determining the outcome of plant-pathogen interactions. In this ERC-funded project you will apply the latest degradomics techniques developed in our laboratory to identify new substrates of these effector proteases. This will identify new target pathways and reveal how bacterial pathogens use proteases to manipulate plant host defense responses.

Your tasks will include:

  • Self-organized experimental work with plants and bacterial pathogens
  • Proteomics/degradomics analyses (sample preparation, data acquisition and evaluation)
  • Investigate molecular mechanisms using genetic, biochemical and physiological methods
  • Support for international collaborations
  • Summarize results in publications and present at scientific conferences
  • Contribute to applications for external funding

Your Profile:

  • University degree and subsequent PhD in plant sciences, biology, proteomics or related field
  • Experience in proteomics or plant biology, preferably in both fields
  • Proven laboratory experience documented by at least one first author publication
  • High level of motivation, reliability and commitment
  • Very good oral and written communication skills in English
