Supercomputers help us to find solutions to major scientific challenges and are indispensable for modern research. The Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) operates one of the most powerful supercomputing infrastructures in Europe and makes it available to researchers at Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ), in Germany, and throughout Europe.
Within the framework of these tasks, the JSC carries out various research and development tasks.
The NIC research group "Computational Structural Biology" carries out computer simulations in the field of structural biology and develops methods of computational molecular biology.

We are offering a

PhD Position - Structure Prediction of RNA

Your Job:

  • Development and parameterization of mathematical models for the prediction of RNA based on machine learning as well as inverse Potts models such as Direct Coupling Analysis (DCA)
  • Application of the developed models to existing databases from RNA sequences such as RFAM
  • Publication of research results; presentation of research results on conferences
  • Guidance of master’s students
  • Cooperation with experimental partners



Your Profile:

  • Completed university degree (Master) in physics, computer science or one comparable subject
  • Knowledge of statistical physics and / or machine learning methods
  • Programming knowledge in C ++ and Python
  • Interest in biological issues
  • Knowledge of the use of parallel high-performance computers
  • Very good knowledge of English

The position is initially for a fixed term of 3 years. Pay in line with 75% of pay group 13 of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD-Bund) and additionally 60 % of a monthly salary as special payment („Christmas bonus“).
