- Modelling and simulation of materials in energy technology

In accordance with the "Jülich Model", the successful applicant will also be appointed professor (grade W3) in the Faculty of Georesources and Materials Engineering at RWTH Aachen University.

Candidates are expected to have relevant experience in the fields of multiscale simulation of the microstructure and also of the functional and structural properties of materials and composites for applications in energy technology. Expertise in scale-bridging methods (both development and applications) is of particular interest, especially in regards to the modelling of microstructure development during the synthesis, fabrication, operation and ageing of energy technology components. In addition to mechanical and corrosive stresses, catalytic and electrochemical reactions play an important part in the performance and lifetime of future energy technology.
Research activities of the successful candidate will be based at the Institute of Energy and Climate Research (IEK) of Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, where the successful candidate will head a newly formed institute in the area of modelling and simulation of materials in energy technology (IEK-13). Research activities will be closely coordinated with the materials science and technology research priorities at IEK. Opportunities for cooperation with the Peter Grünberg Institute (PGI) as well as the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) exist. As well, cooperation and teaching in materials science and engineering at RWTH Aachen University is expected.

Requirements for the position include university and PhD/doctoral degrees. In addition, teaching experience and further academic achievements such as a Habilitation or junior professorship or equivalent research experience at a university, research institution, or in some other social sphere (e. g. industry) are also required.
