Target audience:
Users of JUWELS Earth system model (ESM) partition in Jülich

Since July 2018, the ESM partition of the JUWELS cluster module provides HPC resources dedicated for Earth System Modelling (ESM). The aim of this partition is to enable frontier simulations in this field of crucial societal relevance as well as the initialization, tuning, and coupling of various models and submodels which sum up to an emerging Helmholtz ESM system. It is also foreseen that the JUWELS booster module, which is planned for 2020, will be extended with an ESM partition. This course provides an overview of current developments at JSC related to the JUWELS system and gives users from the Helmholtz ESM project ( and from the PilotLab ExaESM the opportunity to discuss their specific issues and challenges. This time, we will have a focus on the ongoing preparations in the ESM community for the GPU based JUWELS Booster. In addition, February 6 is reserved for a PilotLab ExaESM Meeting.

The course is specifically tailored to the interests and needs of the ESM community.

JSC Events - Measures Regarding the Coronavirus Pandemic

Due to the preventive measures at Forschungszentrum Jülich regarding the spread of the Coronavirus, JSC courses were cancelled or postponed. For the time being and with the rapidly changing situation in mind, JSC cannot foresee whether courses and events in the next months can take place as scheduled as face-2-face events. Seminars will preferably be streamed as video conferences, courses might be postponed or partly given as online events. We still take registrations for the upcoming courses. All participants who registered for courses so far will be notified by e-mail after the regular registration deadline whether and how the courses will be held.

Please check regularly with the webpage whether upcoming events will take place at all or be streamed.
