Scientists working at research infrastructures are commonly asked to present their work to their funding bodies, who support them with a considerable budget, as well to national scientific organisations. A similar expectation exists in terms of public relations (PR) and dissemination with regard to large EU funded projects such as I3s or bigger consortia. Even though a consensus exists that good communication is a fundamental part of innovation, the expectations of funding bodies with regard to science communication activities are unclear, and a well-defined work programme is often missing.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together representatives of funding agencies (European and national) with facility and project managers to discuss what is expected from scientific dissemination activities. Furthermore it is hoped that the workshop will act as a forum for those involved with PR and information dissemination to share their experiences and gain insights into the expectations of funding bodies as well as those of the general public.
