Benchmarking GPU Clusters with the Jülich Universal Quantum Computer Simulator

The PGI Science Office has begun a new series of seminars: the "Jülich Quantum Computing Seminar" will take place every fortnight on Tuesdays at 15:00 via video conference and is intended to promote cooperation between the working groups conducting research in the field of quantum computing and quantum information at various institutes at Forschungszentrum Jülich.

Abstract:  

Simulating quantum computers is a versatile way to benchmark supercomputers such as JUWELS Booster, a cluster with 3,744 NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPUs.

We explain quantum computer simulators from a linear algebra perspective, using the Jülich Universal Quantum Computer Simulator (JUQCS) and the Jülich Quantum Master Equation Solver (JUQMES) as examples. JUQCS is a massively parallel simulator that was also used for Google's quantum supremacy experiments.
