Welcome Reception

Monday evening (12 October 2015) in the historic Town Hall.

The ICFRM-17 welcome reception will take place in the Coronation Hall which is famous for its Rethel frescoes and copies of the Imperial Crown Jewels as well as the gothic and baroque furniture of the building.



Excursion to Maastricht

Thursday afternoon (15 October 2015).

The conference participants have the opportunity to explore the Limburg capital. Historic buildings, beautiful churches and adventure-filled caves give the city of Maastricht its own unique character. Durindferent guided tours you will experience the many flavours of the different parts of town and the surrounding.

Program I : Visit to the beer brewery De Keyzer and tasting
Tour the historic steam-powered brewery De Keyzer, founded in 1758 and closed in 1970. Take guided tour of this monument of industry and finish with a beer tasting in the cellar. This tour includes: two artisan beers and cheese hors d’oeuvres.


Program II : Citywalk
The guide will show you the prettiest spots in the old city centre, including the restored Stokstraat Quarter, the Basilica of Our Lady on the O.L.Vrouweplein, the Ramparts, the Parks, the Jeker Quarter and Vrijthof Square with the Church of St. Jan and the Basilica of St. Servatius

Program III: Tour in the Fort Sint Pieter and Caves Noord
Fort Sint Pieter is perched high above the Meuse river on the south side of the city, and is directly connect with some of the underground tunnels in the Sint Pietersberg hill. The fort dates from around 1700 and is largely still intact, with parts recently restored. The fort contains several main galleries and circular galleries and bombproof areas, which you will visit accompanied by a guide. Outside, you can enjoy an impressive and beautiful view of the city, the Meuse and the surrounding countryside. Please note: Not accessible for wheelchair-users.

In St. Pietersberg the tour leads you in the Northern Corridor System of the Caves St. Pietersberg. Even today the walls and ceilings give information about the way in which the 'block breakers' worked. On the walls can be found numerous interesting inscriptions and drawings, some of which are very old. The temperature in the corridors is a constant ten degrees Celsius.

Program IV : Fortress Walk and Casemates Waldeck Bastion
Martial history is the leitmotiv of this walk. You still can see the old fortifications on several locations in town. This walk covers the area along and partially over the city walls, the Helpoort, the oldest existing and active city gate in the Netherlands (1229) and various watch towers. The guide will surprise you with some unique spots you would never have found on your own. The Casemates are the underground fortifications of Maastricht. The guide will try to give you an impression of why and how thise unique monument was created.

Program V :Maastrichtse Highlights Tour
Maastrichtse Highlights Tour: This tour is a vigorous walk taking in the city’s highlights. It is an energetic and scenic tour, passing by the most important sights of Maastricht. You will gain a perfect impression of the many historical, modern, cultural and
culinary delights that the city has to offer within a relatively short space of time.

Conference Dinner

Thursday evening (15 October 2015) in La Caverne de Geulhem.

La Caverne de Geulhem is an ancient underground limestone quarry in the South Limburg Hills.

The dinner will take place 30 meters below the surface in an absolute unique surroundings!
