"Rhizosphere Spatiotemporal Organisation – a Key to Rhizosphere Functions” (SPP 2089)

IBG-3 is part of the DFG-funded priority program "Rhizosphere Spatiotemporal Organisation – a Key to Rhizosphere Functions“ with a project on “Modelling Self-Organisation in the Rhizosphere” lead by Prof. Andrea Schnepf (FZJ) and Prof. Rainer Helmig (University of Stuttgart). The goal of this project is to use multiscale modelling to study the interplay between root architecture development and gradients of various rhizosphere components simultaneously. Novel experimental approaches from different collaboration partners within the SPP will provide essential data for model parameterisation and evaluation, including structural data on both root architecture and soil, data on plant water relations, exudates and nutrients as well as microbes in the rhizosphere.
