IMES is an interdisciplinary environmental study program covering different faculties, which has been established at the University of Cologne in 2003. The idea of this program is to enhance the handling of environmental problems and research on environmental issues by fostering multidisciplinary education and thinking.
HiTEC
HITEC is a graduate school for doctoral candidates at the Forschungszentrum Jülich and its partner universities RWTH Aachen University, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Universität zu Köln, Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf, and Bergische Universität Wuppertal.

The director and senior scientists are lecturers at nearby universities. Students in the fields of chemistry, physics, and meteorology can perform internships, bachelor, master, and PhD thesis at Forschungszentrum Jülich about topics in atmospheric chemistry and physics. Interested students may contact the listed persons.
Students of physics and chemistry at the University of Cologne have the opportunity to carry out their project internship in one of the working groups at the institute.
PhD students conducting their work at the Institute ICE-3 automatically participate in the accompanying graduate school HITEC (Helmholtz Interdisciplinary Doctoral Training in Energy and Climate Research), which offers additional qualifications and training for professional development.
