HITEC Symposium 2026: First Prize for Hania Azzam

On 3 September 2026, doctoral researchers from across Forschungszentrum Jülich came together for the annual HITEC Symposium. Organized by the HITEC Graduate School, the internal event gives selected doctoral researchers the opportunity to present their research to a broad interdisciplinary audience and demonstrate their ability to communicate complex scientific topics in an accessible and engaging way.

This year’s symposium showcased a diverse range of research across energy, materials, climate science and related fields. Particularly noteworthy was the strong representation of female excellence in STEM, with all three HITEC Communicator Awards being presented to women researchers.

We are especially proud that our colleague Hania Azzam from IET-3 received the first prize for her presentation, “Better Imperfect: How defects unlock the hidden power of molecular hydrogen for silicon photovoltaics.”

Her success highlights not only the quality of her research, but also the importance of clear and inspiring scientific communication. Congratulations to Hania and to all award winners and participants of the HITEC Symposium 2026.
