2026 FZJ-NST Joint Workshop
Collaboration with South Korea: Successful Two-Day Workshop on Energy and Bio & Information

On 16 and 17 April 2026, the 2026 FZJ-NST Joint Workshop, which is held on a biennial basis alternating between Germany and South Korea, took place at FZJ. With more than 85 registrations and over 70 participating scientists per day, the event attracted strong interest from the research community.
Day 1 (16 April 2026)
Following the welcome address by the Chair of the Scientific and Technical Council (WTR), FZJ, Prof. Bernd Neumaier, the current status of German Korean scientific cooperation as well as the HEU program were presented. A particular highlight of the first day was three best-pratice presentations of long-standing collaborations between Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH (FZJ) and National Research Council of Science & Technology (NST):
- IET-4 and KIST-Europe
- IMD-3 and KIER
- IBI-3 and ETRI.
These contributions provided valuable insights into successful international cooperation and outlined concrete perspectives for future projects.
Day 2 (17 April 2026)
The focus of this year’s workshop was on 1) Energy and 2) Bio and Information. On the second day, scientific presentations and discussion sessions addressed current developments, challenges, and innovative approaches in these fields in depth.
Laboratory tours held in the morning and afternoon coplemented the program, offering insights into the research conducted at FZJ and highlighting opportunities for future collaboration.
Poster sessions on both days enabled interactive exchange, in-depth discussions, and the initiation of new collaborations.
The workshop provided a central platform for scientific dialogue and international networking. A continuation of the workshop series is planned.
A special thank you goes to all participating scientists and external guests, including representatives of the Korean Embassy, Bonn Office. Around 25 South Korean participants made a significant contribution to the international exchange.
