Scientific interests

My research focusses on using machine learning, especially deep learning algorithms in weather and air quality research. By training I am a meteorologist, but currently I want to explore how tools from computer vision such as video prediction can be used to forecast meteorological variables. For the future, I hope to be able to apply these techniques to air pollutants such as (organic) aerosols.

Currently I am also leading the KISTE project as principal investigator and hope to enable a broader research community to use machine learning within Earth system science.

My interests are:
• Computer vision, especially, latent space learning
• Complex non-linear systems and dynamics
• Biogenic secondary aerosols and atmospheric (multi-phase) chemistry
