Dr. Holger Klose
Group leader - Alternative Biomass
Holger Klose joined IBG-2 in January 2018 as senior scientist and head of research of the Alternative Biomass group. Previously, he was group leader at the Institute of Botany and Molecular Genetics at RWTH Aachen University. Holger is a plant biotechnologist with a focus on Biomass utilization.
As a prerequisite for developing efficient strategies for biomass utilisation and valorisation, it is important to understand plant cell wall structure and biosynthesis. Therefore, the elucidation of the cell wall recalcitrance has been intensively addressed in his research. In these studies, especially the composition and structure of complex carbohydrates was investigated in different plant species.
Together with other scientists – experts in chemistry, engineering, economic and plant sciences – he works on the establishment of integrated biorefinery concepts from sustainable plant biomass production to valuable platform chemicals.
