Straining of Stress Fibers

Recognition of mechanical signals, especially stretch, is a vital necessity for the formation of complex cell systems and for their adaption to changing environmental conditions. However, which cellular structures stretch primarily affects is unknown. Here, we analyzed by application of a defined, decaying deformation field to living cells where and by how much fluorescently labeled cell structures were impaired by the stretch.
