Prof. Dr. Werner Lehnert

Head of High-Temperature Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell

Werner Lehnert is Professor for Modeling in Electrochemical Process Engineering in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University. He is also running the Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell department in the Institute of Energy and Climate Research - Electrochemical Process Engineering (IEK-3) at Forschungszentrum Jülich. Professor Lehnert studied physics at the University of Bonn. He received his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Düsseldorf and habilitated at Ulm University.
During his career Professor Lehnert worked in research centres as well as in the automotive industry. In the field of SOFC, DMFC, PEFC and HT-PEFC he published more than 100 scientific papers in international journals and contributed to several book chapters. At present PEFC and HT-PEFC are his main research topics. Besides modeling and simulation the focus is on cell and stack development as well as on operando visualization of dynamic phenomena inside electrochemical energy converters.
