Dr.-Ing. Martin Robinius

Head of Process and Systems Analysis

Dr. Martin Robinius is Head of the Process and Systems Analysis Department at the Institute of Energy and Climate Research (IEK-3). He leads about 30 scientists, PhD-, Master- and Bachelor- students who perform research for techno-economic energy systems modeling, -analysis and -assessment within three working groups: “Transport“, ”Sector Coupling“ and “Stationary Energy Systems“. Prior to his current position, he wrote his PhD thesis at the same institute, for which he won several awards. During that time, he was also a visiting researcher at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (USA). Martin began his career at the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology. He also worked for a strategic consultant firm in China on a country analysis and site selection project in Asia and at Shanghai Volkswagen. Martin is part of the Board of Directors “Gesellschaft für Energiewissenschaft und Energiepolitik e. V.”, the German section of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE), subtopic leader for the International Energy Agency and an independent consultant for the private and public sector. He holds a Dr.-Ing. from RWTH-Aachen, a Master of Science from the Kassel University and a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hannover. Martin has authored over 26 publications in journals such as Applied Energy, Energies and Renewable Energy and has been cited over 340 times. One of his latest studies compared the infrastructure required for electric charging versus hydrogen fueling in great detail.
