Research

The task of the INM-10 is to develop a consistent, cross-scale model of brain function and dysfunction from the level of the individual neuron to the entire brain. For this purpose, standardized protocols are developed on all scales. The aim is to gain a better understanding of function and dysfunction in mentally ill patients and using this in the institutes to derive and test biologically valid models of neuropsychiatric diseases and to offer them perspectively as a starting point for diagnostic measures and therapeutic innovations.

To this end, the interdisciplinary institute of RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich will employ the expertise of clinical psychiatry (F. Schneider, U. Habel) and computational neuroscience (M. Diesmann).

Basic principles of the brain are investigated in the research groups:

Functionality of Cortical Circuits

Structure of Cortical Functional Units
