Jülich Excellence Price for Dr. Peter Schüffelgen
10. September 2019
Dr. Peter Schüffelgen was awarded the Jülich Excellence Price for his research on Josephson Junction using topological isolators as the weak link..
He developed a technology for in-situ processing of these Josephson devices resulting in an extremely high transparency of the superconducting contact on the topological insulators. This high transparency is a prerequisite to induce superconductivity into the weak link via the proximity effect, resulting in a topological superconductor. In such systems Majorana zero modes are predicted, which might be suitable candidates for robust quantum states for quantum computing. Peter Schüffelgen was able to find signatures of Majorana bound states in the in-situ fabricated devices.
