In 2009, the supercomputer JUGENE was upgraded to a performance of one petaflop/s, which is one trillion arithmetic operations per second - a one with 15 zeros. The upgrade included not only the computer's hardware components such as 294,912 processor cores, but also the installment of new energy supply lines and a water cooling system to prevent JUGENE from overheating whilst in operation. The images were taken during the upgrade in the Jülich Supercomputing Centre, Forschungszentrum Jülich, in April 2009.
