About me

From 2014 to 2020, Dirk Helmrich has worked in the teaching and research group “Virtual Reality and Immersive Visualization” at RWTH Aachen University. During this time, he completed his bachelor studies in Scientific Programming with a thesis on “Data Set Based Evaluation of Feature Tracking Algorithms”. He worked on different visualization topics, first and foremost the generation of synthetic data for evaluation and statistical error analysis. Dirk Helmrich is with the Foschungszentrum Jülich GmbH since October 2020. In April 2021, he concluded his master’s degree in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science with a thesis on “Interactive 3D-Visualization of Root System Architecture with Immersive Topology Correction”. Today, Dirk works in the inHPC-DE project, focusing on visualization and virtual worlds on HPC systems.

Dirk Helmrich supports institutes, specifically in the realm of plant sciences, on analysis pipelines, computer vision workflows, parameter estimation workflows, and data visualization. Dirk is a PhD student at JSC and the University of Iceland, working on the topic “Visualization as Data Source for Machine Learning”, where he is implementing HPC-ready frameworks with Unreal Engine, WebRTC, and Machine Learning Frameworks.
