How is Artificial Intelligence "intelligent"?

I want to understand how AI is intelligent. Therefore, I research using explainable machine learning for air quality and atmospheric chemistry. I am also interested in machine learning models able to say "I do not know," taking uncertainty into account.

Curiosity is the strongest of all my emotions and guides my decisions.
