New Application for Laser Accelerators on the Horizon
Jülich, 17 February 2014 – Compact laser plasma accelerators are poised to replace conventional particle accelerators in an ever growing number of fields. It may also be possible to use them as a source of polarized particle beams, as initial measurements by Jülich and Düsseldorf scientists suggest. This type of particle beam is required for high-precision nuclear physics experiments. Moreover, in combination with the new accelerator technology, they may also open up new approaches for fusion energy. The findings have been published in the specialist journal Physics of Plasmas (DOI: 10.1063/1.4865096).
