Dr. Thompson

SHADOZ operation: Dr. Anne M. Thompson (NASA) explains international ozone measurement project

Dr. Anne Thompson is a senior scientist at the Goddard Space Flight Center, NASA. The climate researcher coordinates the network Southern Hemisphere Additional Ozonesondes (SHADOZ). Its aim is to provide long-term data on ozone in the atmosphere. We interviewed Dr. Thompson at Forschungszentrum Jülich, where members of the international network with stations in the southern hemisphere have come together to calibrate their instruments in November 2017.

Dr. Herman Smit epxplains how ozone sondes are calibrated at Jülich

Dr. Hermann Smit is a researcher at Forschungszentrum Jülich and Chair of the of the Jülich Ozone Sonde Intercomparison Experiment (JOSIE). Its aim is to implement a global quality assurance plan for ozone sondes in routine use today around the world to watch global changes of ozone in the atmosphere. In order to assess the performance of the different types of ozone sondes, the environmental simulation chamber at the Forschungszentrum Jülich is established as World Calibration Center for Ozone Sondes (WCCOS).

Jülich Excellence Prize 2016

Sarah Finkeldei, Sergii Pud, and Stephan Wirths have been honoured with Forschungszentrum Jülich’s 2016 Excellence Prize. The three early-career scientists received the accolade during the farewell ceremony for doctoral researchers "JuDocs – Karriere made in Jülich" on 17 September and talked about their work and experiences at Forschungszentrum.
