Supercomputer JURECA

Cluster Computer JURECA

JURECA is a cluster computer developed by Forschungszentrum Jülich together with the Russian manufacturer T-Platforms and the HPC software and support company ParTec. With a computing power of 2.2 quadrillion operations per second, the successor of JUROPA is of the highest performance class currently available: the petaflop class. The computer was put into operation in early November 2015.

Overcoming the barriers to Exascale through Innovation - Stephen S. Pawlowski (Intel)

The new series of Jülich Lectures at Forschungszentrum Jülich was inaugurated by Stephen S. Pawlowski, Senior Fellow and General Manager, Datacenter and Connected Systems Pathfinding, Intel. He spoke about the grand technological challenges and long-term strategies involved in developing the next generation of supercomputers.

JUGENE was the top system of the Jülich Supercomputing Centre until it was upgraded to become JUQUEEN. JUGENE had the performance of one petaflop/s, which is one trillion arithmetic operations per second: 1 000 000 000 000 000. Such power is required for complex computational tasks, for example to compute how protein molecules could have originated more than four billion years ago.

Inauguration of JUGENE, JUROPA and HPC-FF

The petaflop computer JUGENE, the cluster computer JUROPA, and the High Performance Computer for Fusion HPC-FF were inaugurated in May 2009. The Federal Minister for Education and Research, Prof. Dr. Annette Schavan, and the then Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Dr. Jürgen Rüttgers took part in the ceremony.
