Neutron Science
Efficient Iron Scavengers
The cyanobacterium Prochlorococcus is the smallest and most abundant photosynthetic organism in the world. In the course of evolution, it has found a genetically particularly efficient way to absorb and store vital iron. With the help of neutron experiments, researchers have now succeeded for the first time in visualizing the molecular mechanism.
